Occupational Therapy Evaluation and Consultation

After an initial consult call and deciding if you would like to go down the path of Occupational Therapy, an evaluation is the next step.

Evaluations include a thorough interview, direct time spent with your child or video footage assessment, interpretation of assessments, and a summary report or comprehensive written report. This will enable Emily to find out more about which tasks are a concern for you and understand more about your needs. In some cases, standardized assessments are used to measure different areas of your child’s development including motor skills and sensory processing, that may be impacting on their daily lives.

After every evaluation, Emily will follow-up with a meeting to discuss your questions about the results and to establish goals in areas that they find difficult and create a plan for moving forward. The evaluation typically takes place in person or via telehealth in your own home or another agreed upon location.

Clinical observations may be obtained in the home, school and/or community environments with your consent. Emily may also liaise with the people who know your child best (with your consent), including your child’s teacher and healthcare team.

Following evaluation, you can expect personalized written recommendations and resources, written therapy session summaries, and personalized coaching on lifestyle interventions including parent coaching and learning ways to engage your child in playful and fun opportunities that promote a “just-right” challenge to support them with meeting their goals. All services include at-home activities and text support.

During each stage, you are made to feel empowered, not passive in the intervention process. Every family we work with at Rebloom, receives a personalized therapeutic program to support their strengths and develop new skills where required, created in collaboration with Emily. We want you and your family concluding sessions feeling knowledgeable, ready to apply strategies in your everyday life, and meet goals!

Evaluation is an ongoing process to ensure therapy matches your ongoing needs and is part of a continuum of care with all people involved.
